Abstract

886,156. Treating gases with discharges. BERGHAUS, B. June 26, 1958 [June 26, 1957; Aug. 28, 1957; Sept. 9, 1957], No. 20543/58. Drawings to Specification. Class 39(1) The method and apparatus of Specification 886,155 in which chemical reactions in gases are effected by the action of an electrical glow discharge on a jet of gas is used for the production of oxygen compounds by reacting oxygen or an oxygen containing substance in the electrical glow discharge. It is stated that N 2 O 5 can be produced directly in an air stream, the dissociation of the air possibly forming ozone. A high yield of nitric oxide may also be obtained. Specification 804,916 also is referred to.
