Abstract

PURPOSE: To avert danger due to combustion, etc. and to prevent formation of undesirable NOx unlike in case of air by generating O3 using a mixed gas of rare gas such as He, Ne or Ar and O2 as an O3 source gas.
CONSTITUTION: An O3 source gas, e.g. consisting of 15W30% O2 and 85W70% Ar is supplied to ozonizing tube 3 of ozonizer 1 from O3 source gas supply part 2. By applying a high voltage between discharge electrodes of tube 3 silent discharge is induced to generate O3. In place of Ar other rare gas such as He or Ne may be used. When O3 generated by this method is used in chemical reaction of other substance, no influence is exerted. When this ozonizer is used in a chemiluminescence system NOx analyzer, stable values are obtd. which are similar to values from an ozonizer using 100% O2 as an O3 source gas.
