Abstract

1, 016, 762. Measuring air flow electrically; flow indicators. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. May 11, 1962 [May 12, 1961], No.17367/61. Heading G1N and G1R. Apparatus for measuring the rate of flow of air comprises an air duct 18 (Fig. 1) in which is located a vane 25, hinged externally at 23, whose deflected position along a scale 20 is indicative of the air flow rate. The vane 25 is mechanically coupled to a synchro rotor winding 27 (Fig. 2 not shown), the rectified signals from the secondary windings 29 being used to energize an alarm relay 40 when the air flow falls below a predetermined value. The apparatus may indicate the ventilation in a mine. When the alarm level is automatically varied in accordance with ambient atmospheric pressure, e.g. by variation of potentiometer 32.
