Abstract

101,651. Pagett, W. V. Feb. 11, 1916. Spring devices.-In a spring frame for motorcycles wherein the lower members of a rear-wheel carrying frame are pivoted to the main frame, the rear of the main frame is provided with a pair of leaf springs which are mounted in cantilever fashion, disposed substantially horizontally, and arranged with their free ends resting directly upon the lower members of the wheel frame at a point near to the axle. As shown in Fig. 1, the members c of a triangular wheel frame c, c', c<2> are pivoted at d to a main-frame bracket a', and the leaf springs b, fixed at a' to the bracket, are disposed inside the members c and bear upon them at point b<1> near to the wheel axle. The upper part of the wheel frame carries a bracket f which slides under the control of springs g, g' upon rods e pivoted at e<1> to the main frame; or other means may be employed to prevent lateral movement at the upper part of the wheel frame, and springs may be omitted. The springs b may be formed into a coil at their fixed end, and instead of being enclosed in the pivoted members, they may be arranged to bear upon channel-section or flat members.
