A blank of cardboard, which may be corrugated, for forming a compartmented insert for a container comprises a series of partitions-forming strips e.g. 21, Fig. 3, sub-divided into portions 24, by cuts 20 or by gaps, and hingedly connected to a series of wall-forming strips e.g. 16, 17 by perforation lines 27. The wall-forming strips are arranged in echelon fashion. The edges of the partitioning portions are partially released from the wall-forming strips by cuts 26, and the acute-angled corners 29 separated by perforation lines 28. The blank is erected, Fig. 7, by turning the pairs of wall-forming strips in the same clockwise sense about the edges of their corresponding partitions-forming strips, so that the portions 24 extend from the top of one wall 16 to the base of the other 17; and displacing successive wall-forming strips in the same longitudinal direction relative to one another to bring the connected parts 29 of the partitions-forming strips into approximate alignment. Portions 29 are glued to the walls, and the erected insert may be folded flat for storage. In an alternative embodiment, in which no gluing is necessary, the strips are hingedly connected by crease lines and the perforation lines 28 are omitted. In another embodiment, Fig. 1 (not shown), in which the strips are connected by crease lines, and alternate wall-forming strips are displaced in opposite directions, when erecting the insert, to align the connected parts of partitions-forming strips. The partitions-forming strips are not glued to the walls.
