Abstract

1,015,942. Rolling. SCHLOEMANN A.G. Aug. 1, 1963 [Sept. 4, 1962], No. 30509/63. Heading B3M. The drive for a rolling mill operating as either a two- or four-high mill is through spindle shafts which are each divided into two sections, the sections nearer to the rolls being shorter and lighter. Rolls 2 and 3 are driven from intermediate shafts 6a and 7a connected by splines to main shafts 6b and 7b. For changing the rolls, a carriage 15 is moved to the right so that the ends of the shafts 6a and 7a are uncoupled from the roll necks. The main shafts are moved to a horizontal position by hydraulic shaft supports 11, 12 and 13, and the intermediate shafts are clamped by jaws 17 on a support 16. The rolls are then shifted by the carriage 15 to the right hand position shown in phantom. If the rolls are replaced by a twohigh set, the shafts 6a and 7a are replaced by heavier shafts to accommodate the extra torque.
