[Also in Division H5] Particulate refractory material-e.g. uranium carbide or other oxide or carbide of a nuclear fuel metal-is formed into substantially spherical particles by being fed from a hopper 15 into a ceramic tube 1 in which it is heated, while descending, by a gaseous plasma (see Division H5) before dropping into and being solidified by an oil bath 7.
