Abstract

1,013,966. Suction cleaners. HOOVER Ltd. Aug. 13, 1963 [Aug. 14, 1962], No. 32009/63. Heading A4F. A suction cleaner comprises suction and exhaust chambers formed of two sub assemblies 14, 15 and a tray 11 on which the cover 12 is hinged. The sub assembly 14 has an integral base 17, side walls 19, 20, and front and rear walls 18, 21 respectively, side wall 19 having a projecting flange 22 which forms with walls 56, 57, 58, 59 of the sub assembly 15 the exhaust chamber. The suction chamber is completed by a top wall comprising platform 26 of the tray 11 fitting over the top of sub assembly 14. Tray 11 forms with cover 12 a hose chamber. The hinged suction chamber cover 35 may be raised to give access to the dirt filter bag 44, supported on the fork 41, the air inlet opening 45 of which registers with the suction air inlet 36 of the platform 26 when cover 35 is closed. The suction hose may be attached through inlet 37. The motor fan unit 46, mounted entirely in suction chamber by bracket 49, is attached by the resilient exhaust duct 51 to the discharge opening 53 in the exhaust chamber wall, the air being exhausted from the latter chamber via outlet covered by diffuser plate 69. The exhaust chamber may be lined with sound absorbing material 72. An electric switch 82 attached to the wall 59 is connected to the motor fan unit 46 by leads 77, 81 passing through the discharge opening 53 and the resilient exhaust duct 51.
