Abstract

925,272. Air filters; suction cleaners. NATIONAL UNION ELECTRIC CORPORATION. Sept. 27, 1961 [Nov 1, 1960], No. 34633/61 Classes 8(1) and 8(2). A suction cleaner comprises a casing having a dirty air inlet 22, a bag holder 26 supported within the casing and having a pair of flanges 34, a filter bag 46 having a mouth 48, and a collar 51 secured to the bag around the mouth 48 and having edge portions receivable between the flanges 34 of the holder, the distance between the flanges 34 being slightly less than the distance between the edge portions of the collar 51 so that the collar must be bent for engagement of the edge portions of the collar with the flanges. The casing comprises a lower section 11 to which is hinged and latched a cover 13, a furniture guard 18, e.g. of rubber, being disposed round the casing. A motor-fan unit 21 is supported on a tray 33 extending across the section 11 of the casing. A connector plate 23 for a cleaning tool hose forms part of a hinge member 14 for the cover 13. The holder 26 comprises a curved plate portion 27 and is pivotally attached to a bracket 28 which is secured to the tray 33, the attachment being such that the holder can be pivoted outwardly but not inwardly of the casing. The edge portions of the collar 51 have tabs 54 thereon which fit into recesses 38 in the flanges 34 of the holder 26, Fig. 3 (not shown), to position and to prevent vertical displacement of the collar. An annular resilient gasket 41 of sponge rubber is mounted in an opening 39, in the plate portion 27 of the holder 26; the gasket is compressed to form a seal between the cover 13 and the plate portion 27 and between the latter and the collar 51, when. the cover 13 is in closed position. The filter bag 46 has the mouth 48 centrally disposed in a wall 49 thereof, the ends of the bag being closed and the bag when positioned in the casing extends around the motor fan unit 21. A filter disc 56 is provided at the top of the motor fan unit 21.
