1,012,369. Packaging under special atmospheric conditions. HESSER MASCHINENFABRIK-A.G. Oct. 30, 1963 [Nov. 27, 1962], No. 42778/63. Heading B8C. Filled packets, P (Fig. 1) sealed and cut from a tube formed around a hollow mandrel 5 are evacuated, or first evacuated and then filled with a protective gas, and to prevent atmospheric air entering the tube before the point 15 at which it is sealed transversely, a peripheral region of the tube is applied resiliently against the mandrel 5. This may be effected by jets of air impinging on the outside of the tube, or, where the tube is rectangular in section, spring- biased rollers 16, 17, 19 may press one against each of its four faces. Alternatively resiliently biased plates 60, 61 (Fig. 5) may press the tube against the mandrel. Delivering from machines. The tube is formed from two webs 12, 12<SP>1</SP> and may be pulled downwardly by the mechanism described in Specification 885,832.
