Abstract

1,255,790. Making bags. ROVEMA VERPACKUNGSMASCHINEN G.m.b.H. & CO. 10 Dec., 1968 [11 Dec., 1967], No. 58585/68. Heading B5D. [Also in Division B8] Bags are made by wrapping material around a mandrel on a machine providing a multiplicity of mandrels arranged on an intermittentlydriven mandrel wheel 16, the axis of the mandrel being parallel to that of the mandrel wheel. The wheel is provided with hollow mandrels 18 of rectangular section, suction being applied within each mandrel to hold the end of a sheet or strip 32 thereagainst while the mandrel is rotated to wrap the strip therearound. The strip is carried on rolls 30 and passes around a tensioning device 34, 36, 38, 40, 42 before passing to suction holders 52, 54 and a severing device 78. A suction device 58 more powerful than the holders at 52, 54 seizes the end of the strip and moves it forward to engage a corner 80 of the mandrel while the device 78 cuts the strip. The wheel then indexes one step and the mandrel rotates through 180 degrees to complete the wrapping. At other stations the bag is filled and sealed by devices not described in detail. Containers (114, Fig. 2, not shown) for the bags are mounted on a disc (112) below the mandrels and a vibrating disc (116) is also provided. As shown the mandrels are duplicated at each station.
