Abstract

1,009,571. Insulators. PILKINGTON BROTHERS Ltd., and W. HOPWOOD. Feb. 6, 1962 [March 1, 1961], No. 7549/61. Heading H2C. In order to minimize discharge and reduce radio interference a dielectric body for an electrical insulator is attached to an adjacent insulator part or to an electrode by an extended joint, the surface of the body being grooved at, or adjacent, the periphery of the joint and the surface of this groove being electrically connected to the adjacent insulator part or electrode. The surface of the groove is preferably metal coated and the electrical connection is preferably made by using conducting cement to form the joint. In the embodiment described a cap and pin insulator comprises a hollow head and skirt 2 to which are cemented a cap 3 and pin 5 by layers 4, 6 of conducting cement. At the edge of each joint is a groove, 11 and 14, which is filled with the cement. Alternatively, the cement may extend only as far as is required to make connection with the metal layer. The dielectric body is preferably of moulded glass or porcelain.
