Abstract

1,009,278. Linings. MILLER INSULATION & ENGINEERING Ltd. Sept. 30, 1963 [July 4, 1963], No. 26489/63. Heading B7S. [Also in Division F4] The floor of a ship's hold comprises a base layer 3, 4 supported by beams 5, the upper surface of the base layer having bonded thereto a layer 7 of glass reinforced plastic. The base layer comprises a plurality of multi-ply wooden sheets, each sheet having bonded thereto a portion 8 of the layer 7, and the edges of each of the portions 8 are spaced from the edges of the corresponding sheet. When the latter are assembled the gaps between adjacent portions 8 are filled with glass cloth 9 treated with a polyester or epoxy resin which is subsequently rendered flush with portions 8. Cork insulation 6 is provided between the wooden beams 5. Carborundum powder may be dispersed throughthe layer 7. In a modification, a jointless layer 7 is formed by spraying the plastic over the assembled base layer.
