A laminate comprises two or more layers of slate, bonded together, e.g. by an epoxy resin filled with ground slate, the slabs in a given layer being in staggered relationship to those in the adjacent layer or layers. As shown, the slabs 1 constituting one layer are of the same thickness and have dressed or sawn edges, and have their grain or pillaring cleavages at rightangles to those of layer 2. The slabs of a given layer may vary in size, as at 3. The bonding material may also be used for pointing the slates.
