[Also in Division E1] A structural element comprises a core 12 of structurally weak material, e.g. aerated concrete which is encapsulated by a layer 14 of sheet material, e.g. of fibreglass, applied thereto by means of a polymeric bonding material, e.g. a thermoset polyester resin, the core having a peripheral rebate 16, the sheet material being bonded as a complete covering layer to each face of the rebate. In a preferred embodiment. the layer of sheet material comprises at least two separate pieces of material the edges of which overlap in the rebate and are bonded together.
