Abstract

In a process for removing sulphur, vanadium and alkali metal compounds from a gas obtained by gasifying liquid in solid fuels the gas is reacted at a temperature of 800-1200 DEG -C. with a solid material containing or being capable of forming at the temperature of the reaction an alkaline earth oxide and SiO2 and/or Al2O3. The alkaline earth metal oxide is preferably lime and the solid material is in granular or finely divided form either as a static bed or a suspended or fluidized mass. The used solid material may be regenerated by steam and reused and in a modification of the process the solid materials may be introduced into the gasifiers with the fuel being gasified.
