Abstract
A reaction between a gas and a fine grained solid is carried out by passing the <PICT:0774325/III/1> gas through a fluidized bed of the solid containing hollow cylindrical filler bodies having portions cut out and projecting inwardly from the cylinder wall, e.g. as illustrated in Fig. 1. By means of said bodies the bulk density of the bed is increased and pressure fluctuations reduced; they may advantageously be allowed to remain stationary in the bed by selecting a suitable gas speed although vibratory motion is referred to. Tables are given showing the increased bulk density of a fluidized bed incorporating said filler bodies. The filler bodies may be made from metal, ceramic or synthetic materials and the process may be applied to adsorption or catalysis by the fine grained solid, to pyrites roasting or calcining calcium carbonate.
