[Also in Division B7] In an air-cooled shoe brake of the kind in which a cooling air blower (not shown), driven by the vehicle engine is arranged to deliver air into the brake drum of a heavy road vehicle near the rear axle and from one side of each brake drum 12 such that the cooling air is screened from the brake shoe articulation points 25 by a guide plate 24, 27 which causes the air to be delivered as a jet across the entire width of the brake drum 12. From the interior space 11 of the brake drum the air flows out through the apertures 13 is diverted through an angle of 180 degrees into the annular space between the brake drum 12 and the wheel rim 17. Additional cooling ribs and/or blower blades, which increase the cooling surface and promote the removal of air, may also be disposed in a known manner in the annular space 16.
