Abstract

1,088,200. Disc brake, cooling. E. CLAVEAU. Nov. 25, 1965, No. 50142/65. Heading F2E. A vehicle wheel 4 mounted on an axle 10 includes a disc brake having friction surface provided on the one hand by friction pads 6 embedded in the wheel and on the other by a surface 17 of a disc 14 slidably and non- rotatably mounted on the fixed structure 12 and urged towards the wheel against the action of springs 28 by two pistons 22 disposed in cylinders 20. In other embodiments the friction pads or annulus are provided on the movable member 14 and the light alloy wheel is provided with an inserted cast iron friction surface. The pistons 22 may be actuated by rods (36, Fig. 5, not shown) which extend through the rear walls of the cylinders and co-operate with a cam member 42 rotated by a manually operated lever 46. Flanges 38 are provided on the rods to maintain the volume of fluid constant when the brake is hand-operated. Cooling.-Cooling fins 2, 18, are provided on the friction members and the wheel hub flange 7 may be provided with radial fins to act as a centrifugal fan. The plate 14 has an air inlet 30 (Fig. 10, not shown) and a nozzle for connection to an air supply, e.g. an opening facing towards the front of the vehicle.
