Abstract
755,909. Vehicle wheels. KELSEY-HAYES WHEEL CO. Oct. 26, 1954 [Dec. 7, 1953], No. 30926/54. Class 144 (1). In a disc wheel 1 having a cover disc 3, louvres 20, 21 are provided respectively on one (inboard). side of openings 12 in the wheel body disc 5 and the other (outboard) side of openings in the cover disc 3 to co-operate, on rotation of the wheel, to direct cooling air across the brake drum 13. As shown, the louvres 21 are pressed out from the cover disc 3 to face in forward rotational direction of the wheel and the disc 3 is located on the wheel, by co-operating indents 18, 19 on the disc periphery and wheel rim, to align the louvres 21 with the leading portion of the wheel disc apertures 12. The wheel disc louvres 20 are all formed integral with an annulus 22 which is secured to the inboard side of the wheel disc so that the louvres 20 cover the leading half of the apertures 12 and open rearwardly to suck the air, scooped in by the louvres 21, through the apertures 12, Fig. 3.
