Abstract
1,008,371. Air filters. AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO. Ltd. Oct. 10, 1961 [Oct. 10, 1960], No. 34689/60. Heading BIT. An air filter, e.g. for compressors or internal combustion engines, comprises a rectangular casing 1 having side walls 4, an end wall 6 and a removable cover 3, a removable rectangular filter element 22 consisting of a sheet of impregnated paper folded concertina fashion, the filter element dividing the casing interior into an air inlet chamber 24 and an air outlet chamber 25, an opening in the end of the casing opposite to the removable cover 3 for the inlet of air to the air inlet chamber 24, and an outlet 18 communicating with the air outlet chamber 25. The casing may be formed as sheet metal pressings and has an air inlet pipe 12 and an air outlet pipe 19. The filter element 22 is preferably made as disclosed in Specification 1,008,372. The ends of the filter element are disposed at an angle to one another and the casing 1 has side walls 4 thereof formed at the same angle to one another, to ensure correct assembly of the element. In a second embodiment, Figs. 4, 5 and 6 (not shown), an air filter is mounted over an air intake opening in a vehicle bulkhead, a perforated plate being provided at the opening. The filter comprises a casing enclosing four filter elements located between opposed peripheral frames.
