Abstract

1,007,392. Bolting. C. I. WILLIAMS. June 18, 1963 [July 5, 1962], No. 24189/63. Heading F2H. A groutable rock bolt assembly comprises a nut 16 on a threaded end to project from the rock face, a vent tube 20 secured to the rod beside the end, a bearing plate 18 having an extended opening to receive the tube, and a spacing ring 17 between the nut and the plate. The bolt is first anchored in the hole by rotating it to expand a sleeve 13b by a cone 13, rotation being facilitated by lubricated rings 13d. The tube 20 is inserted and secured by an elongated spring clip 21, Fig. 5, and the hole sealed with a plastic composition 19. The plate, ring and nut are then assembled and grout is pumped through a bore in the bolt until grout emerges from the tube 20. The tube and bolt are finally sealed by golf tees. The bolt may be encased in paper, and the cone 13 in polyethylene, before the assembly is inserted in the hole. To strengthen rock formations, the procedure described in Specification 1,007,393 (see Division E1), may be used.
