Abstract

1,006,394. Delivering sheets. MASCHINENFABRIK JOHANNISBERG G.m.b.H. May 13, 1963 [Aug. 29, 1962], No. 18862/63. Heading B6H. Apparatus for delivering printed sheets from a printing press, wherein the sheet is taken face downwards from an impression cylinder 3 by grippers 6 on a pair of endless chains 4, 5, turned through 180 degrees and deposited face upwards on a table 7, is characterized in that the sheet is supported during its travel from the impression cylinder to the position at which it is turned by streams of compressed air issuing from ducts 8, 9, a greater volume of compressed air impinging on the underside of the sheet in its central region than in its lateral regions whereby the sheet is bowed transversely to give it greater rigidity in its direction of travel. Air under pressure is supplied to the ducts 8, 9, via a central duct 11, by means of a fan 10. The number of sizes of outlet apertures in the ducts 8, 9, decrease from the central ducts to the outside ones. In another embodiment, the ducts are provided with flap valves whereby the supply of compressed air in each duct may be adjusted individually or shut off altogether. A flap valve 12 in the central duct 11 controls the supply of compressed air to the ducts 8 and 9.
