Abstract
1,006,345. Folding paper. ADDRESSOGRAPH - MULTIGRAPH CORPORATION, CHARLES BRUNING DIVISION. May 28, 1964 [July 23, 1963], No. 22088/64. Heading B6H. A paper web 16 having transverse crease lines 16b at regular intervals to provide rectangular portions 16a is stacked in a container 48, 50, 52 in zig-zag fashion, with the portions 16a superimposed, by stationary guide means comprising a lower plate &c. 54 and an upper plate or set of fingers 60 which define a throat which has a depth smaller than the length of the portions 16a, and is positioned above the back 50 of the container. In operation, the leading end of the web 16 is fed by belts supported on pulleys 45 and by pressure rollers 46, to impinge on the fingers 60 and be directed downwardly to engage the wall 50, and finally to abut the wall 48, as shown in Fig. 5. Continuing movement of the web causes it to fold at its first crease 16b, and the first portion 16a lies on the wall 52. On further feeding, the restricted throat causes the second portion 16a to be placed in compression and to buckle back about the second crease 16b, as shown in Fig. 6; the creased web is now moved forward so that the second crease 16b engages the wall 48 and the second portion 16a is superimposed on the first portion 16a. These operations are then repeated to cause the entire web to be stacked in zig-zag fashion independently of the speed of the web and without the aid of moving parts. The apparatus is described as applied to a copying machine, the web being of sensitized paper originally stacked in zig-zag fashion in a container, and fed around a cylinder with a web of negative material past a source of light. The two webs are then separated, and the web 16 is fed by rollers and belts towards a discharge position, where it is zig-zag folded and stacked as described.
