Abstract
1324202 Folding sheets KLEINDIENST & CO MASCHINENFABRIK 21 June 1971 [26 June 1970] 28981/71 Heading D1S Apparatus for folding laundered sheets 1 comprises a feed means 2 and a plurality of pairs of folding rollers 3, 4, 5, 6, each pair having an associated folding blade 7, 8, 10, the rollers 3, 4, 5, 6 being vertically superimposed and the blades 7, 8, 10 being provided alternately on opposite sides of the pairs of rollers. During the first folding operation, the leading half of a sheet 1 is guided over a metal deflector 11 and passes onto a trough-shaped deflector 12. When the mid-line of the sheet 1 is level with the nip between the rollers 3, 4, the blade 7 is moved by a cylinder 13 to the dotted line position so that a curved lip thereof pushes the sheet between the rollers 3, 4. The once-folded sheet is guided by a plate 14 onto a delivery conveyor 15 comprising a plurality of narrow tapes. The blade 8 is rigidly connected to a piston rod 16 of a cylinder 17 and is pivotable about a fixed pivot 19 by an arm 18. The second fold is formed by movement of the blade 8 to the dotted line position to push the sheet between the rollers 4, 5. The leading edge of the twice-folded sheet slides down a deflector 20. and the sheet is again half-folded by movement of the blade 10 to the dotted line position to push the sheet between the rollers 5, 6. The sheet drops onto the conveyor 15 and is deposited on a table 21. The third folding operation may be omitted and the twice-folded sheet slides off the deflector 20 onto the table 21. The conveyor 15 may be provided with a deflector 23 engaging between the individual belts thereof. The folding blade 7 may be divided into individual sections each having a separate drive. The sections may be interconnected according to the width of the sheet to be folded. The folding operations may be controlled mechanically or electronically, e.g. an impulse meter may be provided at the level of the input roller 22 and cause the folding blades to be operated after a time delay.
