1349558 Folding paper D RODA 8 July 1971 [14 July 1970] 32149/71 Heading B8R A sheet 2, Fig. lb, is placed on a table 1 and moved along it until the front end passes beyond the table and also under a blade 5 which prevents reverse movement. When the front end passes a photo-electric device 13, a motor starts to rotate rollers 10, 11a, 11b, for instance in the directions opposite to the arrows C, E. When the front end is pushed against the roller 10, it is carried through the nip between the rollers 10, 11a, until it reaches a photo-electric device 12a, which reverses the motor so as to rotate the rollers according to the arrows, and the end portion 2a of the strip moves backwards to form a loop 2b, which is pulled between the rollers 10, 11b to form a first fold. When the fold reaches a photo-electric device 12b, the motor is reversed and the process is repeated to form a second fold, until the whole strip is zig-zag folded. When the trailing end clears the device 13, the devices 12a, 12b no longer reverse the motor, so that the folded pack is ejected. The roller 10 is on sliding bearings and moves away from the rollers 11a, 11b against spring action as the pack gets thicker. The blade 5 may be replaced by an eccentric roller or a pair of oneway rollers. The rollers may be replaced by roller segments. In another form, Fig. 3, the roller 10 is replaced by an endless band 17 passing over cylinders 15, 16, the bearings of which can be fixed since the bending of the band allows for the increase in pack thickness.
