Abstract
1,150,897. Folding paper. KIMBERLY. CLARK CORP. 3 Aug., 1966 [4 Aug., 1965], No. 34872/66. Heading B8R. A web-folding device comprises a sheet metal plate 23, Fig. 6, having folding edges 28, 26, and a bent-over portion having a folding edge 29, whereby a web moving upwards in Fig. 6 and centred about the line 27 is formed into two longitudinal fold portions, one by the edge 28 and one by the edges 26, 29, the folded web then being drawn to the right in Fig. 6. A plurality of devices are assembled in line, Fig. 1, the plates 23A being mirror images of the plates 23. Webs 19, 20, 21, 22 are drawn in from opposite sides of the path 48 as shown and folded as described. A folded web passes through a successive device with its upper fold between the two portions of the plate and its lower fold below the bent-over portion. The four webs become interleaved as shown in Fig. 5. Slots 30 are provided in the plates to facilitate initial threading of the webs. Each plate 23 is mounted so as to be slidable up and down in Figs. 6 and 10 on a plate 34, Fig. 11, and beneath plates 38, 39 being secured by set-screws 40, 41. The plates 34, 38, 39, 23 are adjustable transversely by means of a hand wheel 42. In practice, the plates 23 are arranged to be horizontal.
