A corrugated fibreboard carton has a support bar for garment hangers located in a pair of slits extending from the top edges of two opposed side walls, the bar having end portions bent to lie on the outside of the opposed walls. The bar 14 is formed by folding up a fibreboard blank, some of the layers thereof having flaps 30-32 which are bent to lie against the outside of the walls 1 and may be stapled thereto; the walls 1 may have extensions 7-10 which form a channel to support the ends of the bar. Alternatively, the flaps 30-32 may be supported solely on the bottoms of the slits. The bar may be hollow and have a central reinforcement of wood or metal or may have a metal reinforcement of channel or angle cross-section. The bar may be of sheet metal folded to a U- shape. In further embodiments the bar may be of fibreboard folded to a triangular crosssection. When made of several folded layers the bar may be wound with tape. Fig. 17 shows a construction in which the ends of the bar are formed of members 92 stapled together. The carton may be securely closed by gumming, taping or strapping. In one form (Fig. 3) the bar may have extension flaps 56, 58 the former having a slot 57 engaged by garment hangers H and the latter being folded back to maintain the hangers on the bar.
