Abstract

1,004,317. Electric lighting fittings. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Jan. 10, 1962 [Feb. 23, 1961], No. 6688/61. Heading F4R. A wholly or partly translucent envelope in which is enclosed a tubular electric lamp is carried by a rod extending from a support head and is clamped to the head by endwise pressure of releasable clamping means associated with both ends of the rod and externally accessible at the end of the rod adjacent the support head. In the form shown, the lantern consists of a sleeve 10 of translucent material which may be fluted internally, closed at one end by a cap and having an internal channel flanged to rest on a rod 9 extending from the support casing 1. The ends of the sleeve 10 are inclined at an acute angle to the main axis. The outer end of the rod 9 carries a block 12 having a similarly inclined surface and the flanged periphery 4 of the support casing 1 is also similarly inclined and provided with a sealing gasket 19. The rod 9 passes through a bore 5 in the casing 1 and is threaded to receive a nut 14, tightening of which presses the edge of the sleeve 10 against the gasket 19. The block 12 may be extended to carry a lampholder 24 and, for single-ended lamps, the rod 9 carries a hook 6, the shank of which passes between anti-swivel lug 7 on the casing. The rod 9 may be hollow and serves for the passage of connecting wires to the lampholder 24. Reflectors may be mounted in slots at the top of the sleeve on either side of the channel.
