Abstract
1,003,415. Applying adhesive tape. PIRELLI GENERAL CABLE WORKS Ltd. Jan. 23, 1963 [March 15, 1962], No. 9948/62. Heading B8F. Also in Divisions A4, D1, F2 and H2. In a method for dispensing a thermosetting resin a length of flexible porous tape is inserted in a dispensing box having a port through which is injected a quantity of resin charged with a hardening agent sufficient to impregnate the tape which is then withdrawn through a slot in the box for use as required. The box may be cylindrical with an adjustable slot for varying the thickness of resin on the tape. As shown in Fig. 2 the tape is used for insulating an electric cable joint and the box 5 is annular with the dispensing slot on its inner periphery. The annulus is placed over the cable before it is joined as at A and the tape 3 is wound around the joint as at B. The tape may be used for protecting buried metal pipes against corrosion. The tape may be made of polyethylene filaments coated with oxidant solution for bonding with the resin which may be a thixotropic epoxy resin.
