Abstract
The end of a radial-field medium-tension electricity cable consists of is not 1 metallic core, an insulating envelope, a semi-conducting envelope a metallic screen which is uncovered up to a short distance from the semi-conducting envelope (the latter itself being uncovered w.r.t. the insulating envelope along a length detd. by the operational voltage), and possible an exterior protective sheath. To reduce the impedance near to the end of the semi-conducting layer, a high-permittivity coating is deposited on the end of the cable in the vicinity of the semi-conducting layer. The system produces a more uniform electric field along the end of the cable. This is desirable when preparing such cables for adaptation to others, since otherwise there is a concn. of the electric field in these areas, creating insulating zones along the insulating layer and leading to the danger of electrical discharges during use. Previous methods have not overcome this problem, the present method does so by reducing the electric field by deposition of a crating with specific electrical and chemical props. The coating pref. contains epoxy, polyester, or polyurethane resin and may be fixed by e.g. polyethylene or polypropylene grill.
