A resilient sealing element 28 (Fig. 3) with an interiorly threaded mouth 30 which engages about the filling or bung opening 22 of a shipping container has a flexible vertical wall 32 and a convex upwards bottom wall 34 which is flexed to a concave position (Fig. 4) by a screwed-in plug 42 and the wall 32 is bent outwards to engage beneath the adjacent walls 16 of the container. In the form shown, the mouth of the sealing element is tapered and a central boss 36 has an axial bore which is either threaded or has fins to receive a faucet after a cross-membrane 40 is broken. The plug 42 is recessed with opposed turning fins 52 and has a shoe 54 with a threaded bore aligned with that in the sealing element. The convex wall is either pushed down by the shoe 54 as shown or by a threaded plug 58 which extends through the plug 42 (Fig. 5, not shown). The plugs are additionally sealed by gaskets 50, 60. A cap 20 may be secured on the closure by crimping a downturned skirt 22 which is subsequently removed using a tearstrip. The container may have a liner with its neck disposed between the flange 22 and the sealing element 28.
