Abstract

1,002,933. Folding groundseat. J. P. FORFIER. May 29, 1964 [June 4, 1963], No. 22412/64. Heading A4J. In a folding groundseat, the back rest comprises a flexible membrane 134 carried between telescopic rods 90, 92 and 115, 116, a pair of channel members 14, 16 into which the rods fit when the groundseat is folded, and a foldable cross bracing structure 64, 68 for holding the channel members 14, 16 apart when unfolded and together when folded. The back rest also has angle adjusting arms 118, whose free ends engage holes 122, 124, 126, 128 in the channel members 14, 16, ground support channel members 28 and a sitting extension 162 of the membrane 134. To fold the groundseat the inner rods 92, 115 are released from the extended position by spring catches and received within the outer rods 90, 116. The support channel members 28, arms 118 and rods 90, 116 are folded within the channel members 14, 16. The membrane extension 162 and upper part of membrane 134 are folded on to the main part. The cross bracing structure is folded so that the channel members 14, 16 are in contact and the excess membrane is wrapped around the bundle formed, Fig. 1 (not shown) and secured by a strap 152. A strap 42 forming a handle is also provided, which in the unfolded position of the groundseat also forms a stay to pull the lower ends of the channel members together and thus tighten the membrane 134.
