Abstract

1,002,170. Two-part couplings. O. DUNKEL. June 8, 1962 [June 9, 1961], No. 22239/62. Heading H2E. A polarized multi-pin plug and socket connector consists of a panel-mounted part, Fig. 1(b) which consists of a metal casing 1 in which is fitted a contact mounting block 2 with a number of spring contacts 3 arranged in a circle and a central socket 5, and a cablemounted part, Fig. 1(c) which consists of a metal casing 6 in which is fitted a contact mounting block 7 with a number of flat contacts 8 arranged in a circle and a central pin 9. A lock nut 13 with finger grips 18 is mounted on the casing 6 and is threaded at 16 to engage a thread 17 on the casing 1. Radial projections 19 on the casing 1 and matching recesses 20 in the casing 6, polarize the units. The casing 6 has a plastic extension 10 and a rubber sleeve 12 to seal the chamber in which the connections between the cable conductors and the contacts are made. A ring gasket 21 is provided to seal the interior of the casing 6. The central plug and socket contacts may be interchanged, Fig. 2 (not shown) or the whole of the contact mounting blocks may be interchanged, Fig. 4 (not shown). In a further embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown) the panel-mounted casing 1 has a locating ring which engages the outside of the lock nut 13, the finger grips 18 being suitably shortened to allow this.
