Abstract

1,002,137. Cabinets for sewing machines. SINGER CO. Aug. 4, 1964 [July 18, 1963], No. 30472/64. Headings A4B and A4H. A sewing machine cabinet 15 includes a top 23, a door hinged to the top by lazy tongs hinges 26 and also forming a table top 24 apertured at 43 to receive the sewing machine 44, a rail 51 carried by the free end of the table top 24, and a leg hinged to the rail and having curved parts 57 so that, in stored position, the main part of the leg lies close to the undersurface of the table top 24 and the cabinet can be slim. Tubular metal leg members 54, 55, pivoted on posts 52, are held in stored position by a C spring 66 and in supporting position by pivoted links 58, 59 and a stop bar 62. The table top 24 is held extended by spring-joined toggle braces 67, 68 pivoted at 69. The end 76 of a release lever 74 overlies an end of the brace 67 and the other end of the lever is engaged by a cross-bar 56 joining the leg members, when the leg is moved to stored position the toggle being broken to allow the table top to fold to cabinet-closing position. The sewing machine is stored on a base 86 mounted on a single vertical pivot and swingable by a handgrip 94 to the position shown in Fig. 3, the sewing machine being then lifted and placed in working position in the aperture 43. A drawer 82 moving on a slide 83 is provided and the aperture 43 is closed by a decorative panel 46 snapped into the aperture and provided with a handle 45.
