1,001,879. Switch point for overhead railways. BOATS FITTINGS CO. Ltd. Oct. 16, 1962 [Oct. 20, 1961], No. 37738/61. Heading B7L. A switch point for a single track overhead railway has switch-rails 11, 14 pivoted at 16, 17 to outgoing rails 12, 13 and being pivotal to engage at 18 an incoming rail 10 so that as one switch-rail is raised the other is lowered. A frame 19 fixed to supports 15 for carrying rails 10, 12, 13 carries a rotatable shaft 21 having extensions 23, 24 connected through ball-joint links 23a, 24a to switch-rails 11, 14, respectively. The shaft 21 rotatably carries a weight 28 having abutment faces 29, 30 co-operating with a lever 27 fixed to shaft 21. As shown in full lines switch-rail 11 is held engaged with rail 10 by weight 28 whose face 29 engages lever 27. To change the point, a sharp pull on a cord 32 causes the weight to swing over a top dead-centre position to drop into a position 28a, Fig. 3, in which face 30 engages lever 27 to rotate shaft 21 to raise switch-rail 11 and lower rail 14. Should a loaded runner 33, Fig. 3, run against a raised switch rail 11 or 14 then the rail is lowered to allow the runner to pass to rail 10 but the weight does not pass over the dead centre position so the weight returns the same switch rail to its raised position after passage of runner 33.
