An elevated railway having horizontal supporting track surfaces 4, 5, and vertical guiding surfaces 10, 11 is provided with a switch blade 19 formed of two parts 21a, 21b hinged together at 26 and rotatable about a fixed pivot 20. When in the position shown in Fig. 7 the horizontal surfaces 24b, 24a of the blade 19 form continuations of the surfaces 5 and 7 of the direct track whilst the vertical guiding is effected by the vertical surfaces 22b, 22a on the blade 19 and by surfaces 10, 12. When in the Fig. 8 position the horizontal supporting surfaces are 4, 25b, 25a and 8 and 5, 16 and 9 and the vertical guide surfaces are 10, 23b, 23a and 14 together with 11 and 15. Movement of the heel 21a about its pivot 20 is effected by a circular rack and pinion operated by a suitable motor and the relative rotation of parts 21a, 21b is effected in like manner. Fluid pressure operated elevating rollers are positioned under the horizontal supporting surfaces of the blade 19 to facilitate its movement.
