Abstract

1,001,810. Hydraulically operated hatch covers. FULLER CO. April 13, 1964 [May 10, 1963], No. 15175/64. Heading E2M. [Also in Division F2] A ship hatch cover comprises two panels A, B hinged together by hinges 25 so that they are horizontal in the closed position and are folded to be vertical in the open position, panel B being hinged to the deck by arms 18 and panel A running along a track 15 on rollers 28, the hatch being opened and closed by hydraulic cylinders 37, 38 operated by power unit P attached to panel B and consisting of a reservoir 54 containing a pump 88 and valve assembly 104, the pump 88 being connected to an external electric motor 84 and the valve assembly to a solenoid operated three position, four-way valve 112, having positions for opening, holding and closing the hatch covers, this unit in turn supplying the hydraulic cylinders 37, 38 which execute the opening and closing movements via hingeing brackets 31 and the whole power assembly being mounted on the under surface panel B by anti-vibration mountings 62. The power unit connects with the hydraulic cylinder by flexible pipes 143, 144 (Fig. 3, not shown). Means are provided for filling and emptying the reservoir and the bottom section 78 can be removed for cleaning and/or replacement of components. Manual means are provided for disengaging the system so that the hatches may be removed mechanically if the power system fails.
