Abstract

1,001,565. Donning and doffing apparatus. DEERING MILLIKEN RESEARCH CORPORATION. Aug. 22, 1961 [Aug. 22, 1960], No. 30273/61. Addition to 990, 542. Heading DiD. The doffing and donning carriers of the parent Specification are suspended from a sub-carriage itself carried by a horizontally-movable support carriage so as to be movable relatively to the support carriage. In Fig. 2, the first carrier is a channel beam 51b with empty-bobbin holders 51a, and the other is a similar beam 53b with package holders 53a. The holders are as described in Specification 902,972 and correspond in number to the spindles to be doffed together on one side of a spinning frame. The carriers can be raised and lowered independently by cables 67, 77 from a subcarriage 81 running on rails 85 on a support carriage 29 which in turn can run on rails 31, Fig. 1, on a main carriage 27 which can run on rails 25, motors 47, 39 controlling the movements of the support and main carriages. Thus, with doublerow spinning frames arranged parallel to one another in rows as at 11, the carriers can be brought above any desired row of spindles. The cables 67, 77 pass over pulleys 69a, 79a on the sub-frame and pulleys 69, 79 on the support carriage to capstans 65, 75 driven from motors 61, 71. After the doffing holders have engaged the spindles, it is necessary to raise them and move the carriers outwardly from the centre line of the supportcarriage so that the donning-holders are above the spindles. Accordingly the sub-carriage 81 is attached by cables 93 to the piston of a hydraulic cylinder 91 controlled by a valve V, the sub-carriage being biased towards the inner position by the weight of the holders. A second set of holders is carried on the other side of the support carriage from the set shown.
