987, 588. Doffing-and-donning and cleaning textile spinning-machines. DEERING MILLIKEN RESEARCH CORPORATION. Jan. 30, 1962 [Feb. 15, 1961], No. 3491/62. Headings D1D and D1F. Roving or spinning frames are doffed and donned and the frames and/or air and floor space therebetween are cleaned by separate apparatuses carried on a horizontally movable overhead carriage. The doffing-and-donning apparatus may be as described in Specification 902,972 the cleaning apparatus may comprise co-operating air blowing and suction trunks. As shown, a carriage 17 is reversibly driven along support rails 19 by a motor 23 through driven and idler support wheels 27 and 29 so as to move parallel to rows of spinning frames 11. The carriage mounts a bobbin doffing- and-donning crane 35 comprising vertically movable internested bobbin carrier beams 35a and driven by a motor 37 through drive wheels 41 for cross-travel on rails 33. The carriage also carries, at each end and depending into alleys 13 between the frames, pairs of blowing and suction trunks 53, 51, formed of soft, flexible rubber or plastic material and each respectively comprising air orifices 53a and a narrow mouth formed at the bottom of a flared end, Fig. 4 (not shown) which rides in contact with or slightly above the floor. The trunks are interconnected through conduits 53c, 51c and blowers 55 driven by motors 57. The carriage movement may be reversed through a limit switch 61 controlling the motor 23 or reversing clutches or gearing (not shown). The traverse is maintained to enable continuous sweeping operation of the cleaning apparatus but movements of carriage 17 and crane 35 are interrupted and are subject to an overriding selection control during doffing and donning operations.
