Abstract

[Also in Division H2] The armature of an electromagnet rotates about the free end of one pole-piece of the electromagnet, while its outer pole-faces rotate past the inner faces of other poles of the electromagnet. In the form shown, a laminated or solid rotor 56 of rectangular shape is rebated at 59 to receive the end of the central limb of the electromagnet which has been turned down to form a cylindrical bearing 40 for the armature. The outer poles are cut away at 52, 54 to accommodate the rotor which rotates against restraining torque produced by springs 70, 72 acting on the output shaft 58. The rotor may be retained in the operated state by a magnetic stop. Various rotor profiles are described. The outer limbs of the stator may each carry an energizing coil, one having more turns than the other for selective operation.
