A printing machine for printing a plurality of colours on an object such as an egg carton, comprises a driven shaft 13, two printing cylinders 19 and 21 in rotational operational relationship with said driving shaft, a plurality of timing sprockets 31, 32 and 33 also in rotational operational relationship with said driving shaft, carriage blocks 11 for supporting the cartons to be printed, a conveyer 12 to move the carriage blocks 11 adjacent each of the cylinders 19 and 21 in turn, and cam followers 34 on each carriage block 11 to make operational contact with each of the timing sprockets in turn, whereby the movement of the blocks 11 under each printing cylinder in turn is controlled to ensure accuracy in the relative position of printing each of the coloured configurations. A drive gear 14 on the driven shaft 13 drives gears 15 and 16 which are mounted on shafts 17 and 18 supporting the printing cylinders 19 and 21 respectively. Pulleys 22 and 24 on the shaft 13 drive timing belts 23, 25 and 26 which in turn drive pulleys 27,28 and 29 mounted on the shafts which support the timing sprockets 31, 32 and 33 respectively. The gears 14, 15 and 16 may be split gears, whereby adjustment may be made to eliminate backlash. The cylinders 19 and 20 print in differently coloured inks and further printing cylinders using other coloured inks may be used.
