Abstract

1,259,097. Printing apparatus. LINOTYPE & MACHINERY Ltd. 27 May, 1969 [28 Feb., 1968], No. 9580/68. Heading B6C. An inking or dampening forme roller carried by two supports 2 is moved between a position in which it is in contact with a plate cylinder and one in which it does not obstruct access to the plate cylinder by gearing which causes the supports 2 to move on pivots. Each support 2 carries a gear segment 4, which is engaged by a gear 5, driven by a rotatable handle through worm and bevel gears and a shaft 6 common to both gears 5. Springs mounted on the shaft 6 force the forme roller against the plate cylinder, but allow it to move resiliently away from the plate cylinder in the event of, for example, a web wrap-around. Camshaft 15 and its follower 17 make possible movement of the forme roller into and out of contact with the plate cylinder by a small movement of the supports 2. The supports 2 may be mounted pivotally on the journals of another roller of the train of which the forme roller is part.
