Ce dispositif (56) comprend un premier moyen de détection (58) de la présence d’un objet (78) situé dans une zone d’angle mort d’un premier côté (52) du véhicule automobile (2), un second moyen de détection (60) de la présence d’un objet situé dans une zone d’angle mort d’un second côté (54) du véhicule automobile (2), un moyen d’éclairage apte à éclairer une zone avant latérale du premier côté (80) du véhicule automobile (2) et une zone avant latérale du second côté du véhicule automobile (2). Un organe de commande (72) est configuré pour piloter le moyen d’éclairage de sorte à modifier l’éclairage de la zone avant latérale du premier côté (80), respectivement de la zone avant latérale du second côté, en réponse à la détection de la présence d’un objet (78) par le premier moyen de détection (58), respectivement par le second moyen de détection (60).
