Abstract

The cardboard tray with a bottom and side walls (3,4) has a triangular section pillar (5) at each corner with one side biased relative to the walls. The biased side is formed by the superposition of two vertical rectangular tabs (7,8). The first vertical tab (7) joins one wall to an adjacent wall and the second vertical tab is narrower. The two opposite side walls (4) are connected by first folding lines to first end flaps and connected in the upper part by second folding lines to second flaps. These second end flaps are folded down inside the tray and fixed to the internal face of the corresponding side wall. Each first flap is connected by a third folding line to a third rectangular flap fixed on the face of the side wall adjacent to the first flap. The third flap is connected in bias and in the direction of the principal side wall direction to one of the first tabs by a fourth folding line. Each second flap is connected to one of the second tabs by a fifth folding line, the tabs being fixed together to form the corresponding corner pillars.

THE PRODUCTION OF SUCH A TRAY
The present invention relates to a tray of cardboard sheet material comprising a bottom and a belt of side walls, comprising at each angle a corner pillar of triangular horizontal section, one side of which is at an angle with respect to said walls.

 It also relates to a blank making it possible to obtain a tray as defined above.

 It finds a particularly important although not exclusive application in the field of storage and transport trays for fruits and vegetables, poultry and other food products which require resistant packaging, suitable for storage in a refrigerated medium which may have a degree of high humidity.

 There are thus known (EP-0 567 425) corrugated cardboard trays or crates having reinforcing angle pillars. Such packaging does not always allow good resistance to compression, the corner pillars having insufficient solidity during stacking. In addition, the consumption of cardboard is not optimized and the overall appearance of the packaging is not always successful.

 The present invention aims to provide a tray and a blank of cardboard sheet better meeting those previously known to the requirements of practice, in particular in that it allows easy mounting from an optimized manufacturing blank, with low quantitative losses in cardboard, all to obtain a packaging having excellent mechanical resistance, in particular to compression, which manifests itself during stacking of full packaging.

 The trays obtained with the invention also have an aspect of finish and solidity which is particularly appreciated in the food industry.

 For this purpose, the invention notably proposes a tray made of cardboard sheet material comprising a bottom and a belt of side walls, comprising at each angle a corner pillar of triangular horizontal section, one side of which is at an angle with respect to said walls. , characterized in that the bias side is constituted by the at least partial superposition of two rectangular vertical tabs, namely a first and a second tab.

 In advantageous embodiments, recourse is had to one and / or the other of the following arrangements - the bias side is constituted by a first vertical tongue joining a wall to the adjacent wall, and a second vertical tongue narrower; - the bias side is formed by two vertical tabs of width less than the distance necessary to join together two adjacent walls in the plane of the bias side; - The tray is characterized in that it has two opposite side walls respectively connected on either side by first fold lines to end flaps, called first flaps and connected in the upper part by second fold lines , double, to second flaps folded inwards of the tray and fixed on the internal face of the corresponding main side wall, in that each first flap is connected by a third fold line, double, to a third fixed rectangular flap on a face of the side wall adjacent to said main side wall or on said first flap, said third flap being connected laterally, at an angle and in the direction of said main side wall, to one of said first rectangular tabs by means of a fourth fold line, and in that each second flap is connected laterally, at an angle and in the direction of said p aroi side adjacent to one of said second rectangular tabs via a fifth fold line, said tabs being fixed to each other to form the oblique sides of the corresponding corner pillars; - Each first flap is fixed on the internal face of the adjacent side wall and the third rectangular flap is fixed on the first flap; - Each first flap is fixed on the external face of the adjacent side wall and the third rectangular flap is fixed on the internal face of the adjacent side wall; - the opposite side walls comprising first flaps are higher than the adjacent walls devoid of flaps; - the opposite side walls comprising first flaps, comprise a single stacking lug in the upper part and a corresponding recess in the lower part.

 The invention also provides a blank making it possible to obtain a tray as described above.

 The invention will be better understood on reading the following description of particular embodiments given by way of non-limiting example.

 In the following description, the same reference numbers are used to designate the identical blank and plate elements.

 FIG. 1 shows a tray 1, for example made of a sheet of corrugated double-sided cardboard 3 mm thick, comprising a belt 2 of side walls 3, 4 substantially rectangular, identical in pairs and facing each other, comprising at each angle, and over the entire height of the platform, an angle pillar 5 of triangular horizontal section, one side 6, corresponding to the hypotenuse of the section, is at an angle to the adjacent walls 3, 4, the two other sides of the triangle of the pillar which is rectangle at their intersection, being constituted (see FIG. 2) on the one hand by an end part A of the width a of the wall 4 and on the other hand by a part B of first flap, of width d, which is attached to said wall 4, as will be seen.

 In the embodiment more particularly described here a = b.

 The biased side 6 (see FIG. 2) consists of two rectangular or substantially rectangular tabs 7 and 8, extending over the entire height of the plate at the level of the pillar, and resting in the lower part on the bottom of the plate.

 The tongue 7 is attached to the side of the wall 3 and is of length equal to the hypotenuse of the dihedral of rectangular triangular section formed by the pillar.

The folded tongue 7 abuts on the contact line 11 with the adjacent wall 4, against which it gets stuck.

 The tongue 8 is in turn connected to said adjacent wall 4 and of width less than 1, for example equal to 1/3 of this width.

 This dimension will depend on the dimension of the tongue 7, as will be seen during the description of the blank 12 below, making it possible to obtain the plate 1.

 The tongue 8 is fixed to the external face of the tongue 7 by gluing.

 It can also be fixed on the internal face.

 In the embodiment described here, the walls 4 also include a stacking lug 13, centered relative to the wall, for example rectangular, arranged to cooperate with a recess 14 opposite, located in the lower part of the plate at level of the junction line 17 'between the wall 4 and the bottom 15 of the plate.

 We will now describe the blank 12 with reference to FIG. 3, making it possible to obtain the tray of FIG. 1.

 The blank 12 has a rectangular central panel 15 forming the bottom of the tray.

 The panel 15 is provided on each side with a rectangular flap, namely two opposite first flaps 16 devoid of flaps in the embodiment more particularly described here, connected to the panel by fold lines 16 'forming the sides of said panel, and two second opposite flaps 17 connected to the panel by fold or junction lines 17 'perpendicular to the fold lines 16'.

 Each flap 17 is respectively connected on either side, at each of its longitudinal ends, by first fold lines 18, located in the extension but slightly offset to take account of the thicknesses of cardboard, relative to the fold lines 16 ', to rectangular end flaps 19 of length 1o' substantially equal to that of the adjacent flaps 16, and of the same height h as the flaps 17 to which they are respectively connected.

 The second flaps 17 are also connected on their respective longitudinal edge, located on the side opposite to the panel 15, by second fold lines 20, double, to absorb the extra thickness of cardboard, to second rectangular flaps 21, of the same height or substantially the same height as the flaps 17, adapted to be folded inwardly of the plate, the longitudinal edge 21 coming to wedge in friction, during the formation of the plate, in the fold line 17 ', to be fixed on one face of the corresponding side wall, that is to say the internal face of the flap 17, for example by gluing, with glue called "hot melt" in Anglo-Saxon denomination, to form.

 According to the embodiment of the invention more particularly described here, each first flap 19 is connected over only part of the length of the first flap equal to 1o - b, by a third fold line 22, double, parallel and in the extension with the second fold lines 20, to a third rectangular flap 23 suitable for being fixed on the adjacent flap, of the same height L as the second flap 21 and as the first flap 19.

 The third flap 23 is connected on the side of said second flap 21, to the rectangular tongue 7, of the same height h, by a fourth fold line merged with the junction line 10 previously described, the tongue 7 having a free edge 24 of the side of said second flap, parallel to said line 10.

 Each second flap 21 is in turn connected laterally to the second tongue 8 via a fifth fold line 25 and has a free edge 26 joined with the free edge 24 of the tongue 7 adjacent.

 The end of the fifth fold line 25, located on the side of the flap 17 coincides with the end of the second fold line 20, which is set back from the line 18 and at the edge 26, towards the inside of the part 17.

 The tongues 7 and 8 are arranged so that they make it possible to form the corner pillars having a biased side formed at least in part by two thicknesses of double-sided corrugated sheet.

 In the embodiment more particularly described here, the transverse dimension or length lo of the first flaps 19 is slightly greater than the transverse dimension of the first flaps 16, these flaps having to be glued inside said flaps. But it is also possible that it is a little lower, the flaps to be glued to the outside of said flaps, the external edges 27 of the flaps 16 being moreover aligned with the external edges 28 of the flaps 19 and 23 concerned.

 By transverse dimension or length l is meant the distance existing between the outer edge of the flap or flap, located opposite the bottom 15, and the fold line which connects the flap, or flap, to the bottom, or to its connecting flap.

 The height L measured between the edge 29 of the flap 19, located on the side of the flap 16 and extending in the extension of the fold line 17 ', and the line closest to the third double fold line 22, is equal to the transverse dimension or height L of the flap 21.

 The transverse dimension 12 of the tongue 7 is arranged to allow the junction between walls, as specified according to the embodiment of the invention more particularly described, with li + 12> 1o = = (lo - ll) x 4 and 1o - 1i = b.

 The transverse dimension 13 of the tongue 8 is in turn such that, flat, the edges 24 and 26 of the tongues 7 and 8 are contiguous, which, once folded, allows recovery.

 FIGS. 4 to 6 show another embodiment in which the tongues 7 and 8 ′ are of dimension l 1 2 and l 1 3 smaller than any of the tongues therefore not being long enough to join the internal face of the adjacent wall.

 Even partial covering, at 30, of the tongues, always increases the compressive strength significantly, during stacking.

 On this blank 12 'of FIG. 6, the free edges 24' and 26 'of the two tabs are no longer joined but separated by a recess 31, in the shape of a T, the bar of the T being a part hollowed out between lines of double folds 20 'and 22', of the same thickness as the said double lines, the first flap 19 ', second flap 23' and tongue 7 ', seen from above, having a U shape whose two branches are equal and of form identical overall.

 We will now describe with reference to Figures 1, 2 and 3, the mounting method of the plate according to the embodiment of the invention more particularly described here.

 From the blank 12, flat beforehand glued in the necessary places, for example by lines or dots of cold glue or "hot melt", the bottom 15 being horizontal, the side flaps 16 are partially folded.

 The first flaps 19 are folded around the fold lines 18, then the flap 17 is raised, the flap 19 being placed inside with respect to the flaps 16, if the line 18 is offset towards the inside of the flaps 16, then glued to said flaps.

 The second flaps 23 are then folded around their double fold line 22 and glued to the internal face of the first flap 19, in the embodiment of FIG. 1.

 Then the tongues 7 are folded by lateral depression to come into abutment at 11 on the internal face of the corresponding wall 4. In the case where the tongue 7 'is shorter, a removable template allows the shaping at an angle.

 The second flaps 21 are then folded around the lines 20, then the tongue 8 is pressed and glued to the tongue 7 to form the pillars according to the invention.

Claims (12)

 1. Tray (1) of cardboard sheet material comprising a bottom (15) and a belt (2) of side walls (3, 4), comprising at each angle an angle pillar (5) of triangular horizontal section, one side of which is diagonal to said walls, characterized in that the diagonal side consists of at least partial superposition of two vertical tabs (7, 8; 7 ', 8'), namely a first and a second tabs.  2. Tray according to claim 1, characterized in that the bias side is constituted by a first vertical tongue (7) joining a wall to the adjacent wall, and a second vertical tongue (8) of smaller width.  3. Tray according to claim 1, characterized in that the bias side is constituted by two vertical tabs (7 ', 8') of width less than the distance necessary to join two adjacent walls together in the plane of said bias side -  4. Tray according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that it comprises two opposite side walls (4) respectively connected on either side by first fold lines (18) to end flaps (19 ), called first flaps and connected in the upper part by second fold lines (20), double, to second flaps (21) folded inwards of the tray and fixed on the internal face of the corresponding main side wall, in that each first flap (19) is connected by a third fold line (22), double, to a third rectangular flap (23) fixed on a face of the side wall adjacent to said main side wall or on said first flap, said third flap being connected laterally, at an angle and in the direction of said main side wall, to one of said first rectangular tabs (7, 7 ') by means of a fourth fold line (10), and in that each second flap is connected laterally, at an angle and in the direction of the adjacent main side wall, to one of said second rectangular tabs by means of a fifth fold line (25), said tabs being attached to each other to form the corresponding corner pillars.  5. Tray according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that each first flap (19) is fixed on the internal face of the adjacent side wall and the third rectangular flap is fixed on the first flap.  6. Tray according to any one of claims 1 to 5, characterized in that each first flap is fixed on the external face of the adjacent side wall and the third rectangular flap is fixed on the internal face of the adjacent side wall.  7. Tray according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the opposite side walls (4) having first flaps, are higher than the adjacent walls (3) devoid of flaps.  8. Tray according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the opposite lateral walls comprising first flaps, comprise a single stud (13) stacking in the upper part and a recess (14) corresponding in the lower part.  9.
