La présente invention concerne un procédé de pro-
duction d'une mousse de polyisocyanurate rigide. Elle concerne plus particulièrement un procédé utilisant un nouveau constituant polyétherpolyol ayant une activité catalytique sur la réaction de trimérisation des polyiso- cyanates. Il est connu que le choix d'un constituant polyol et d'un catalyseur de trimérisation appropriés constitue un facteur important qui détermine la productivité et les propriétés de la mousse depolyisocyanurate. La mousse
de polyisocyanurate est ordinairement produite en fai-
sant réagir un constituant polyisocyanate avec un cons-
tituant polyol en présence d'un catalyseur de trimérisa-
tion et d'un agent d'expansion. On connaît également divers catalyseurs de trimérisation, parmi lesquels on
utilise de préférence les sels métalliques d'acides car-
boxyliques pour des raisons économiques et techniques.
Comme le catalyseur est incorporé au constituant polyol contenant l'agent d'expansion, il est souhaitable que
le catalyseur soit soluble dans ces constituants ou com-
patible avec eux. Cependant, ces sels d'acidescarboxyli-
ques ont une solubilité limitée dans le constituant polyol et sont peu solubles dans un agent d'expansion comme le
trichlorofluorométhane. On a essayé de solubiliser l'aci-
de carboxylique servant de catalyseur dans le constituant
polyol, par exemple en faisant réagir l'hydroxyde de po-
tassium avec un acide gras à longue chaine dans un mélan-
ge de polyol polymère et de glycol sous vide, ou encore
en augmentant la solubilité du catalyseur dans le polyol.
Malheureusement, ces procédés présentent encore des inconvénients en ce que la solubilité du catalyseur reste limitée à une certaine valeur, et en ce qu'on ne peut pas
utiliser tous les types de polyols.

L'invention concerne un nouveau procédé de produc-
tion des mousses de polyisocyanurate consistant à faire réagir un constituant polyisocyanate avec un constituant polyéther-polyol en présence d'un agent d'expansion et d'un catalyseur de trimérisation du polyisocyanate. L'amélioration réside dans l'utilisation d'un nouveau
constituant polyéther-polyol qui fait en même temps fonc-
tion de catalyseur de trimérisation. Le nouveau consti-
tuant polyéther-polyol est le produit anhydre de la
réaction entre une faible quantité d'un anhydride d'aci-
de dicarboxylique et un polyéther-polyol partiellement
alcoolaté avec un métal alcalin et/ou un métal alcalino-
terreux.
Etant donné que pratiquement tous les atomes métal-
liques sont chimiquement liés au constituant polyol, un
constituant unique peut remplir deux fonctions différen-
tes, en fournissant l'hydrogène actif d'une part et en catalysant la réaction de trimérisation d'autre part,
conduisant à une amélioration des propriétés de la mous-
se de polyisocyanurate finale.
L'alcoolate de polyéther-polyol de départ peut se préparer en chauffant sous vide un agent d'amorçage ayant au moins deux atomes d'hydrogène actifs dans sa molécule avec un hydroxyde de métal alcalin ou alcalinoterreux, puis en faisant réagir cet agent d'amorçage avec un oxyde d'alkylène. Les polyéther-polyols obtenus peuvent être utilisés tels quels dans la réaction ultérieure avec
un anhydride d'acide dicarboxylique.
On peut aussi faire réagir les polyéther-polyols
bruts ou les polyéther-polyols purifiés préparés à par-
tir de ce produit brut ou de polyéther-polyols du commer-
ce avec l'hydroxyde métallique par chauffage sous vide.
Dans ces réactions, une partie des groupes hydroxyles ter-
minaux présents dans le polyéther-polyol peuvent être
amenés sous la forme alcoolate avec ces atomes de métal.
Comme exemples d'agents d'amorçage utilisables, on ci era des polyols de faible masse moléculaire tels
que l'éthylène glycol, le propylène glycol, le triméthy-
lolproDane et le sucrose, des alcanolamines tels que
les mono, di, et triéthanolamine, des polyamines ali-
phatioues comme l'éthylène diamine, la diéthylènetriami-
ne, la triéthylènetétramine, des polyamines aromatiques comme la tolylènediamine, le 4,4'-diamino-diphénylméthane et la-phénylènediamine, et des polyols aromatiques comme
le bisphénol A et les résines novolaque.
Comme exemples d'oxydes d'alkylène pouvant etre
utilisés, on citera l'oxyde d'éthylène, l'oxyde de pro-
pylène, l'oxyde de butylène, etc... On peut faire réagir par addition plusieurs oxydes d'alkylène avec l'agent d'amorçage pour donner des copolymères statistiques ou séquences. Les polyéther-polyols ont initialement un indice
d'hydroxyle de 25 à 1000, de préférence de 100 à 600.
Comme exemples d'hydroxydes de métaux alcalins et alcalino-terreux, on citera l'hydroxyde de sodium, l'hydroxyde de potassium, l'hydroxyde de calcium et l'hydroxyde de magnésium. On préfère l'hydroxyde de potassium. La quantité d'atomes métalliques chimiquement liés aux polyéther-polyols est de 0,05 à 10 parties, de préférence de 0,1 à 5 partiesen poids, exprimées en métal, pour 100 parties en poids du polyéther-polyol métallise. Il est important que l'hydroxyde métallique ajouté soit amené sous la forme d'alcoolate dans toute la mesure du possible de façon à ce que la quantité d'hydroxyde métallique restant soit aussi réduite que possible. On y parvient en opérant à température élevée, avec une agitation énergique, sous un vide poussé, ou
en augmentant la durée de réaction. On peut aussi utili-
ser des polyéther-polyols ayant des indices d'hydroxyle

plus élevds ou ayant une teneur plus élevée en groupes alcool primaire terminaux. On peut augmenter la teneur sn groupes alcool primaire tcerminaux en augnentant la quantité d'oxyde d'éthylène additionnée aux groupes terminaux des molécules de polyéther-polyol. On fait réagir les polyéther-polyols partiellement
alcoolatés obtenus avec un anhydride d'acide dicarbo-
xylique en milieu anhydre. Comme exemples d'anhydrides d'acides utilisables à cet effet, on citera l'anhydride
succinique, l'anhydride glutarique, l'anhydride fuma-
rique, l'anhydride maléique, l'anhydride phtalique, l'anhydride cyclohexanedicarboxylique, etc... On peut également utiliser des mélanges de ces anhydrides. La quantité anhydride ajoutée est de 0,5 à 1,5 équivalents, de préférence de 0,8 à 1,2 équivalents pour 1 équivalent des atomes métalliques. La réaction peut être effectuée à une température de 30 à 150 C,de préférence de 60 à
C pendant 1 à 3 heures. On a trouvé que des anhydri-
des d'acides monotrit ou tétracarboxyliques tels que
l'anhydride acétique, l'anhydride trimellitique, l'anhy-
dride pyromellitique etc... ne donnaient pas de bons
résultats dans l'invention.
On peut faire réagir les produits de réaction obte-
nus avec un polyisocyanate conformément à l'invention pour produire des produits expansés en polyisocyanurate rigide. Les produits de la réaction peuvent servir à la
fois de constituant polyol et de catalyseur de triméri-
sation. La quantité de polyisocyanate par rapport au constituant polyéther-polyol est généralement telle que le rapport en équivalentsdes groupes isocyanates aux atomes d'hydrogène actif soit supérieur à 2. Mais on peut également travailler avec des rapports inférieurs à 2 s'il n'est pas nécessaire que les produits expansés finaux aient une résistance supérieure à la chaleur et au feu. Far exemple,le constituant isocyanate peut être
mis à réagir avec le produit de la réaction du polyéther-
polyol métallisé avec un anhydride de diacide avec un rapport en équivalentsde PJCO à l'hydrogène actif de 0,8
à 1,2.
On peut utiliser n'importe quel isocyanate ordinai-
rement utilisé pour la production de produits expansés à base de polyisocyanurate. Comme exemples de ceux-ci, on citera le 4,4'diphénylméthanediisocyanate brut (MDI brut), le polyméthylènepolyphénylisocyanate (PAPI),
le tolylnediisocyanate brut (TDI brut), le 2,4-tolylè-
nediisocyanate, le 2,6-tolylènediisocyanate, le naphta-
lènediisocyanate, le xylylànediisocyanate, l'hexaméthy-
lànediisocyanate, l'isophoronediisoyanate et des prépo-
lymères préparés à partir de ces polyisocyanates et de
polyols appropriés.
On peut utiliser n'importe quel agent d'expansion ordinaire, tel que le trichlorofluorométhane (F-11),
le dichlorodifluorométhane (F-12), le chlorure de mé-
thylène, l'eau, le nitroéthane, le formamide, l'urée,
l'acide borique, le borax, etc....
Des agents tensio-actifs classiques sont de préfé-
rence ajoutés à la composition expansible de l'invention.
Comme exemples de ceux-ci, on citera des copolymères siloxane-oxyalkylène (huiles de silicone), des organoe polysiloxanes, des alkylphénols oxyéthylés, des alcools gras supérieurs oxyéthylés, des copolymères séquences
oxyde d'éthylène-oxyde de propylèneetc...
Si on le désire, on peut ajouter à la composition expansible de l'invention d'autres additifs classiques tels que des ignifugeants, des charges, des colorants,
etc... En outre, on peut incorporer au constituant po-
lyéther-polyol catalytiquement actif de l'invention
des composés à hydrogène actifs classique et des cata-
lyseurs de trimérisation connus dans la technique.

Pour expanser et durcir la composition expansible
de l'invention, on peut utiliser n'importe quelle techni-
que classique. On peut par exemple mélanger au consti-
tuant polyisocyanate d'autres constituants par le pro-
cédé en une seule phase ou par le procédé prépolymère.
Les compositions obtenues peuvent 9tre expansées par mous-
sage en blocs, moussage par injection (procédé classique
ou procédé par battage), moussage par pulvérisation, mous-
sage-stratification en continu, etc...
La présente invention peut s'appliquer à des polyé-
ther-polyols très divers, carlles métaux sont liés chi-
miquement à ce constituant. Ceci permet de produire à vo-
lonté divers produits expansés d'isocyanurates présen-
tant des propriétés différentes.
Les exemples non limitatifs suivants sont donnés à
titre d'illustration de l'invention. Sauf indications con-
traires, les parties et pourcentages sont en poids.
EXEMPLE I
A - PREPARATION DU POLYETHER-POLYOL MODIFIE
1 - Polyéther-polyol brut: Dans un autoclave préalablement purgé à l'azote, on introduit 182 parties de sorbitol et 5,9 parties d'hydroxyde de potassium à 85 %. On chauffe le mélange à 130 C sous 5 torr et on le fait réagir avec 1500
parties d'oxyde de propylène à 100-1100C pendant envi-
ron 5 heures. Après avoir ajouté 43,6 parties d'hydro-
xyde de potassium à 85 %, on chauffe le mélange réaction-
nel à 130C sous 5 torr pendant 2 heures. Le polyéther-
polyol brut obtenu est un liquide jaune clair, visqueux, ayant une viscosité de 24 000 cps à 250C. 94,1 % de la quantité totale d'hydroxyde de potassium ajoutée sont
transformés en alcoolate.
2 - Produit d'addition à l'acide dicarboxylique: a) produit d'addition à l'acide succinique:

Dans un ballon à 4 tubulures de 50G mi muni d'un agitateur, d'un thermomètre et d'un tube d'arrivée d'azote, on introduit 3G00g du Qolyéther-polyol brut prépare eu stade 1 ci-dessus et 12,5g d'anhydride succinicue. Cn agite le mélange à 80-90 C pendant 1 heure sous un courant d'azote. Le produit d'addition obtenu est une huile jaune pale ayant une viscosité de
7000 cps à 25 C.
b) Produit d'addition à l'acide glutarique: On répète le mode opératoire du stade a) ci-dessus excepté cu'on remplace l'anhydride succinique par 12,3g d'anhydride glutarique. Le produit d'addition obtenu
a une viscosité de 8700 cps à 25 C.
c) Produit d'addition à l'acide maléique: On répète le mode opératoire du stade a) ci-dessus, excepté ou'on remplace l'anhydride succinique par 18, 5g d'anhydride maléique. Le produit d'addition obtenu a
une viscosité de 18000 cps à 25 C.
d) Produit d'addition à l'acide phtalique On répète le mode opératoire du stade a) ci-dessus, excepté cu'on remplace l'anhydride succinique par 18, 5g d'anhydride phtalique. Le produit d'addition obtenu a
une viscosité de 11600 cps à 25 C.
e) Produit d'addition à l'acide cyclohexanedicarbo-
xylique: On répète le mode opératoire du stade a) ci-dessus, excepté qu'on remplace l'anhydride succinique par 19,4g
d'anhydride cyclohexanedicarboxylique. Le produit d'ad-
dition obtenu a une viscosité de 8700 cps à 250C.
B- TRIMERISATION DU POLYISOCYANATE
Dans un godet de papier de 200 ml, on introduit g de 4,4'diphénylméthanediisocyanate brut (MILLIONATE MR 100, Nippon Polyuréthane Co.,Ltd) et 15 g d'un des polyéther-polyols modifiés préparés dans les stades a)
à e) décrits ci-dessus. La température des deux consti-
tuants est ajustée au préalable 25-5C. Cn agite im-
médiatement le mélange avec une baguette de verre pendent une minute et on le laisse durcir par une
réaction exothermique. On détermine le temps néces-
saire pour que la réaction arrive à son terme (y com-
pris le temps d'agitation). Les résultats sont donnés
dans le tableau 1.

Les spectres infra-rouges des produits durcis présentent l'absorption caractéristique d'un cycle isocyanurate.
EXEMPLE 2
Dans des béchers de polyéthylène de 1 l, on intro-
duit à chaque fois 100 g de chacun des produits obtenus dans les stades a) à e) de l'exemple 1, 2 g d'huile de silicone (DKS silicone D-332, DaiIchi Kogyo Seiyaku Co., Ltd) et 55 g de trichlorofluorométhane (DAIFLON R11U
Daikin Kogyo.,Ltd) et on maintient le mélange à 20"C.
Puis on y ajoute 215g de 4,4'-diphénylméthanediisocyanate
(MILLIONATE MR-100, Nippon Polyurethane Co.,Ltd), égale-
ment maintenu à 200C. On agite énergiquement le mélange dans un mélangeur de laboratoire pendant 5 secondes et on le verse dans un moule revêtu de polyéthylène. Le
mélange donne rapidement un produit expansé durci présen-
tant les propriétés indiquées dans le tableau 2.

EXEMPLE 3
Dans un autoclave préalablement purgé à l'azote, on
introduit 92parties de glycérol synthétique et 4,95 par-
26 ties d'hydroxyde de potassium à 85 %. On chauffe le mé-
lange à 130 C sous 5 mm de mercure et on le fait réagir avec 750 parties d'oxyde d'éthylène à 100-110 C pendant 2 heures environ. On fait réagir le polyéther-polyol brut obtenu avec 7,5 parties d'anhydride succinique{80-90 C
pendant 1 heure, ce qui donne un liquide transparent vis-
queux.

EXEMPLE 4
En suivant le mode opératoire décrit à l'exemple 3, on fait réagir 92 parties de glycérol avec 2,3 parties
d'hydroxyde de potassium à 855. On fait réagir successi-
vement le mélange réactionnel avec 234,5 parties d'oxyde
de propylène et 234,5 parties d'oxyde d'éthylène à 100-
C pendant environ 3 heures. On fait ensuite réagir
le polyéther-polyol brut obtenu avec 5,0 parties d'tanhy-
dride succinique à 80-90 C pendant 1 heure, ce qui don-
ne un liquide transparent,visqueux.
EXEMPLE 5 à 7
En suivant le mode opératoire décrit à l'exemple 2, on prépare des produits expansés similaires à partir des polyéther -polyols modifiés des exemples 3 et 4, et d'un polyéther-polyol du commerce (DK POLYOL SO-400,. indice d'hydroxyle 400, Dai-Ichi Kogyo Seiyaku Co.,Ltd). Les formules et les propriétés des produits expansés obtenus
sont donnés dans le tableau 3.

On répète l'exemple 6, excepté que la quantité de trichlorofluoromgthane est portée à 65g. On verse la composition expansible dans un moule d'aluminium de
x30x5 cm (dimensions intérieures), préalablement main-
tenu à 45 0C. On laisse ensuite la composition mousser et durcir à la température ambiante pendant 10Ominutes. La mousse obtenue présente les propriétés suivantes densité, g/cm3 0,042 indice d'oxygène, 0 2 26,3 essai à la cheminée, de poids conservé 91,2 essai de brOlage 2min. 18

La mousse ne présente aucune modification défavora-
ble par chauffage à 130 C pendant 72 heures..
EXEMPLE 9
Avant leur mélange avec le polyisocyanate, on
stocke les formules des exemples 2,5 à 7 à la tempéra-
ture ambiante ou dans un réfrigérateur-pendant 7 jours.
Les formules restent transparentes et homogènes, et
elles sont stables au stockage.
Naturellement, l'invention n'est nullement limitée aux conditions particulières de mise en oeuvre qui ont été décrites dans le courant des exemples
qui précèdent.

Claims (4)
1. Procédé de réalisation de mousse de polyuré-
thane suivant lequelonfaitréagir un constituant polyiso-
cyanate avec un constituant polyéther-polyol en présence
d'un agent d'expansion et d'un catalyseur de trimérisa-
tion de ce polyisocyanate, caractérisé
en ce que l'on utilise,comme constituant polyéther-po-
lyol faisant en même temps fonction de catalyseur de tri-
mérisation, le produit anhydre de la réaction entre un anhydride d'acide dicarboxylique et un polyéther-polyol partiellement alcoolaté avec un métal alcalin et/ou
un métal alcalino-terreux.
2- Procédé suivant la revendication 1, caractérisé en
ce que le diacide est choisi parmi les acides succini-
que, glutarique, fumarique, maléique, phtalique et cy-
clohexamedicarboxylique.
3- Procédé suivant la revendication lou2, caractérisé.en
ce que k métal est choisi parmi le sodium, le potas-
sium, le calcium et le magnésium.
4- Procédé suivant la revendication 1,2u3, caractérisé
ce que le polyéther-polyol partiellement alcoolaté com-
prend 0,05 à 10 parties en poids de ce métal pour 100 par-
ties en poids.
- Procédé suivant l'une des revendications 1 à 4,
ce que le produit de réaction comprend 0,5 à 1,5 équi-
valents dudit anhydride de diacide pour 1 équivalent
dudit métal.
6- Procédé suivant l'une des revendications 1 à 5, carac-
térisé en ce quele rapport en équivalents dudit polyisoceamateau
polyéther-polyol est supérieur à 2.
7- Procédé suivant l'une c revendications 1à6, caracté.isé
ce que le polyéther-polyol est préparé en faisant réa-
gir un agent d'amorçage ayant au moins deux atomes d'hydrogène actif avec un oxyde d'alkylène en preésence d'un hydroxyde de métal alcalin et/ou d'un hydroxyde
de métal alcalino-terreux.
8- Procédé suivant la revendication 7, caractérisé
ce que 1' agent d'amorç-age est choisi parmi les poly-
alcools aliphatiques de faible masse moléculaire, les
alcanolamines, les polyamines aliphatiques, les polya-
mines aromatiques et les polyalcools aromatiques.
9- Procédé suivant la revendication 7 ou 8, caractérisé en ce que l'oxyde d'alkylène est choisi parmi l'oxyde d'éthylène, l'oxyde de propylène, l'oxyde de butylène
et leurs mélanges.
- Procédé suivant la revendication 7, wou 9, caractérisé en ce que le polyéther-polyol a initialement un indice
d'hydroxyle de 25 à 1000 de préférence de 100 à 600.
