Abstract

The circuit breaker is normally manually operated, but has an automatic overload cut-out. The reset operation used after a cut-out due to overload is distinct from that of the normal manual reset after switching off. The overload cut-out unit (10) can be held separately in a store from the rest of the unit (12) minimising the amt. of stock that need be held. Both manual and automatic units are housed in the same moulded housing. The manual lever (14) has two stable positions coupled to a differential load operated rod. The differential unit has an overload sensor controlling an electromagnetic relay with an indicator giving warning of the overload fault. Two mechanically coupled links are used (22, 24) such that one overrides the other during a manual operation.
