Abstract

Providing a reverse gear with first and second forward gears, the gear box is used on cycle-motors. First and second gear drive pinions and a chain drive wheel are mounted on an input shaft. The first is rotated through a free wheel, and the latter two are keyed to the shaft. The counter pinions and chain wheel are mounted free to rotate on an output shaft. Reverse gear is engaged by sliding a keyed sleeve until coupling dogs engage those of the counter chain wheel. To engage first gear the sleeve slides in the opposite direction until coupling dogs engage those of the first gear counter pinion. For second gear engagement the second gear counter pinion slides to dog onto the first gear counter pinion, with the free wheel effecting an overriding of the first gear drive pinion.
