Abstract

Procédé pour la détermination de l'aire effective de contact à une pression déterminée que présente une base déformable revêtue d'un milieu visco-élastique. On applique à ladite pression sur ladite base revêtue dudit milieu, par sa face hypoténuse un prisme à réflexion totale à indice de réfraction plus faible que celui dudit milieu et on mesure la proportion de lumière réfléchie totalement par ladite face. Un appareil pour la mise en oeuvre de ce procédé comprend un prisme à réflexion totale, des moyens pour faire tomber sur l'une des faces latérales du prisme autre que la face hypoténuse un faisceau de rayons parallèles perpendiculaires à ladite face latérale et des moyens pour comparer à la quantité de lumière incidente la quantité de lumière sortant par l'autre face latérale perpendiculaire du prisme.
