Abstract

The box-section panel for a roof, comprises a series of parallel purlins joined together by cross-braces. Each purlin (1) has a rope (1a) whose ends are anchored at the level of its upper lengthwise edge, while its central portion runs to the level of the opposite edge, thus giving a pre-stressing effect. Compression pieces can be fitted over the purlins so as to distribute the pre-stressing effect equally, typically in the form of bridging joists nailed and/or glued into place.
